Supportive Multicultural Association

CQMA is an independent, not-for-profit association incorporated in 1992 for the purpose of promoting multiculturalism and community harmony for all people in Central Queensland. Our volunteers and staff respect the social and cultural benefits that arise from cultural diversity and value the innovative, creative and economic development opportunities it fosters for our community.

We provide community programs and courses for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Our services also include activities and events that celebrate cultural diversity and promote community harmony.

We advocate for, and are focussed upon, the grass roots need of the many CALD communities and individuals in the Rockhampton region.

What We Do

CQMA celebrates all our cultural differences and offers a range of educational, informative and inclusive activities designed to remove barriers and improve participation rates for all of the Rockhampton region’s CALD community members. Whether you are new to the region or have been here for many years already, we have something for you.

We receive fantastic support from the CQ University, our wonderful federal and state Members of Parliament, local councillors and many local service providers. Most importantly we have deep connections with the members of our regions many CALD community associations.

The CQMA aims to be a secure and supportive environment within the lives of Queensland’s CALD communities. Acclimating into a new country, region or community of people can be overwhelming, especially if you are culturally or linguistically diverse. As a proud and community driven organisation, the CQMA endeavours to create a more united Queensland, preparing new residents and members with the tools they need to thrive in their new home.

The Importance of Community

Humans are social beings. We need each other to survive, learn and grow. Our mission is to provide consistency, information and a celebration of culture for culturally and linguistically diverse communities. By joining the CQMA, you’ll have access to the resources you need to thrive in your new community. Whether it be accessing English classes or information on disaster preparedness, to finding a sense of social connection, we encourage everyone to join with an open mind and an open heart.
